SUSIM was turned off on June 18 for the yaw-around.  Otherwise,
SUSIM successfully performed its daily mid-resolution and MgII
solar scans during periods of predicted UARS telemetry.

Because problems were found in the solar pointing model used to
compute UV irradiances, the entire SUSIM data set requires
reprocessing.  In addition, a new algorithm has been adopted that
finds and corrects occasional solar pointing data dropouts.  As we
are not quite ready to reprocess all the way to level 3, the RSS
system was to be used to do a level 1 reprocessing, the same level
of reprocessing that the CDHF performed for us just before its
demise.  At that time (2001), approximately 2500 days were
reprocessed by the CDHF over a period of about 4 months.  By
contrast, about 3800 days were reprocessed by only one of the 5
SUSIM VAXes in just over two days.

One reason for the large difference may stem from how each
reprocessing run was set up.  The CDHF was apparently editing
runstreams by hand, whereas the SUSIM RSS-mode runstreams were
produced automatically by routines put together by Ed Esfandiari. 
Another difference may be in the staging of input files.  On the
CDHF, some of the input files may have been located in long-term
storage whereas on the SUSIM RAC, the input files were located on
readily accessible disk farms.  The level 1 reprocessing is less
computing intensive than we expect the level 3 reprocessing to be,
so more VAXes may need to be harnessed to swiftly complete the
latter.

     PEM continues to work with the GUVI team on the diagnosis of data from
the first conjunction period.

     PEM has been working with the GUVI team to identify a second time period 
for coordinated measurements.  Predictions show the best time of conjunction
is just after the UARS YAW at the end of June; however, the spacecraft power
my not be sufficient to operate PEM.  The orbital conditions are different 
from the first period where the TIMED-UARS orbits are nearly perpendicular at 
this time.  PEM operations is requested to begin three orbits prior to and 
last for three orbits after conjunction times.  Predicted orbital conjunctions 
as of June 14 (varies with each new set of predictions) are:

As dates of predicted orbital elements improve, contacts appear and disappear
from this list; however, in general the conjunctions seem to be occurring at 
higher latitudes as the measurement time period approaches (higher latitude
contacts increase the chance for adequate precipitation to produce a common 
signal).

     PEM continues to receive NMC data files from NOAA.  No problems have
been encountered.



*Beginning of power orbit day (PEM activation): array current >5 amps, array 
     voltage >53.5 volts, and battery current >2.0 amps.  
 End of power orbit day (PEM deactivation): time in power orbit day >4 minutes,
     array current <9 amps, and battery currents <0.2 amps.
 Power orbit day variation: ~39-40 min at yaw to ~50-51 min at maximum beta.

                           REPORTING PERIOD

This report covers 08 June 2002 (Orbit 58731, GMT Day 159) through  14
June 2002 (Orbit 58835, GMT Day 165).


                         SPACECRAFT OPERATION

The observatory is now in Reverse Flight (Northern Hemisphere viewing)
and   is  performing  nominally  under  two-battery  operations.   The
instrument operational changes were:

The  beta  angle  ranged between the angles of 34.1  degrees  to  25.6
degrees  for  this  report period.  The beta angle is  now  decreasing
towards a minimum angle of 0 degrees on 21 June 2002 (DOY 172).

Spacecraft  battery  1,  2,  and 3 performance  monitoring  continues.
Battery 1 remains OFF the charge relay.  Battery 2 and Battery  3  are
currently maintaining greater than 23.8 V end-of-night (EON) load  bus
voltage.   Battery  temperatures are stable with a  temperature  delta
between Battery 2 and Battery 3 of 0.96 to 1.28 degrees C.  Additional
battery performance data for each battery on 07 June and 14 June  2002
are provided in Appendix D.

The  clock  error  ranged from -4.2 to 06.8 msec  during  this  report
period.  Clock rate adjustments are listed in Appendix C.

All  instrument  and subsystem engineers were advised on  the  initial
excursion  of ALERTS or Out-Of-Limits conditions detected by  the  FOT
for  this report.  A summary is listed below and the details of  ALERT
and Out-Of-Limits occurrences are listed in Appendix B.

The  data  loss  calculations are no longer  being  supplied  by  Data
Capture Facility (DCF).


                       OTHER SIGNIFICANT EVENTS


                       UARS SATELLITE OPERATIONS

The  FOT is in the process of implementing some minor changes  to  the
Eclipse  system to help optimize operations.  The new release  of  the
Eclipse  software is currently being tested.  If the testing continues
to  go well, this release should be moved to operations after the  yaw
on 21 June 2002.

The FOT awaits a decision regarding opening firewall rules for the new
TAC systems on the new UARS subnet.  This is necessary to move the TAC
replacement systems out of building 14 and into the control center.

                       FUTURE SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

The  next UARS Yaw slew is scheduled for 21 June 2002 (DOY 172).  This
maneuver  will  be  a  Reverse to Forward  Flight  maneuver  (Southern
Hemisphere viewing).
